Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. recently developed a new hydraulic excavator with two excavating arms, which is expected to be used to rescue people buried under collapsed houses in the event of a disaster.
This new hydraulic excavator is called ASTACO. Its excavating arm structure is similar to that of a human arm. It consists of three parts: the upper arm (lifting part), the lower arm (boom) and the hand (heading part). Each part of the excavation arm has a certain degree of independent activity and can perform complex operations. When such an excavator is used in a disaster site such as an earthquake, it can use one of the excavating arms to raise the object, and then use another excavating arm to pull out other objects pressed underneath.
According to reports, the excavating arm is made of high-strength lightweight materials to ensure the safety of the excavator.
