Fire Response in the City
Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:
Chicago firefighters were called to respond to a fire in a two-story apartment building near 68th and Aberdeen in the Englewood neighborhood around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday. Five residents managed to escape unharmed before the fire department arrived.
About 20 minutes later, a firefighter fell through the floor and triggered a mayday call. However, he soon exited the building on his own and suffered no serious injuries.
"He wasn’t transported or injured. He was quickly removed by his crew and returned to work. He’s doing well," said Deputy District Chief Rosalind Jones of the Chicago Fire Department.
Firefighters worked from both the roof and ground level to tackle the flames, which spread to the building directly to the south.
The fire was under control by approximately 1:45 a.m., but it reignited around 6:15 a.m. while crews remained on site to monitor hot spots.
