Classification of Wet Magnetic Separators
Wet drum magnetic separators are ideal for processing strongly magnetic minerals. Depending on the tank structure, they can be categorized into three types: co-current, half-countercurrent, and countercurrent.
**Co-current type magnetic separator (CTS)**
Advantages: High capacity, suitable for coarse-grained materials (0–6mm), and can operate in multiple stages. Disadvantages: When handling large quantities of iron ore, magnetic particles may be lost in the tailings, so careful management and low pulp levels are required.
**Countercurrent type magnetic separator (CTN)**
Advantages: Higher recovery rate, suitable for fine-grained materials (0–1.5mm) in roughing and scavenging. Disadvantages: Lower concentrate grade due to potential blockage from coarse materials, making it unsuitable for coarse-grained applications.
**Half-countercurrent type magnetic separator (CTB)**
Advantages: Produces high-quality iron ore concentrate with good recovery, suitable for particles ranging from 0.5–0mm. Widely used across various industries due to its versatility.
Wet Drum Magnetic Separator – Magnetic Components
The wet drum magnetic separator uses a permanent magnet system made from high-quality ferrite and rare-earth magnets. The average surface magnetic flux density ranges from 100 to 600mT (1000Gauss to 6000Gauss). It consists of five main parts: the permanent magnet cylinder, roller, magnetic system, tank, and transmission components.
Working Principle
When the ore slurry flows into the magnetic field, strongly magnetic minerals are attracted to the drum's surface. Weakly magnetic and non-magnetic materials are discharged, while the magnetic minerals on the drum rotate and exit the magnetic field, completing the separation process.
