Caterpillar is working to build a $140 million motor grader in North Little Rock and is expected to employ 600 people and provide large machinery for the world.
Caterpillar, located in Peoria, Illinois, laid off 24,000 people worldwide in 2009, but the factory in North Little Rock was not affected. Governor Mike Beebe thanked the company for sticking to the plan in the "worst recession."
The North Little Rock factory is currently being converted from a factory that originally produced cassette tapes and DVDs. Caterpillar received a $3 million grant from the Governor’s Fast Action Fund to build the project.
