A few days ago, the establishment of the Bohai Oil Fingerprint Database hosted by the Beihai Monitoring Center of the State Oceanic Administration achieved major breakthroughs. The staff used the international level oil fingerprint analysis method to solve the oil fingerprint identification technology. This is of great significance in promoting the construction of the Bohai Oil Fingerprint Database and promoting the responsibility for tracking oil spill accidents at home and abroad.
There are differences in the map information for any two oils. Therefore, through the use of advanced technology to analyze the collected oil samples, you can grasp the oil spectrum information (that is, the oil fingerprint), so as to distinguish different oil products. This is of great significance for tracing the liability of accidental floating on the sea and reducing the pollution of the marine environment. Before and after the Spring Festival in 2005, the North Sea Monitoring Center of the State Oceanic Administration started the construction of the Bohai Oil Fingerprint Database.
Up to now, the center has completed more than 100 samples and more than 100 kinds of components including 9 original oil samples and 2 weathered samples. It involves 7 types of experimental analysis of chromatographic and mass spectrometry information. The center also used two large analytical instruments—gas chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy and fluorescence spectrometry to perform infrared spectroscopy on all oil samples and seven kinds of fluorescence spectra including three-dimensional fluorescence. This means that the oil fingerprinting technology, the key technology in the construction of the oil fingerprint database, has been solved.
Thanks to the use of international advanced analytical methods and the establishment of internationally comprehensive map information, the oil fingerprint identification technology of the Beihai Monitoring Center of the State Oceanic Administration has reached the world advanced level. This also provides favorable conditions for our country to get rid of the disadvantages caused by the backward technology in foreign oil spills. At present, the center staff is fully performing spectrum analysis and data processing, and the Bohai Oil fingerprint database is expected to be put into use in a short time.
