Genetically Modified Super Canola Successfully Breeded in Zhejiang

The successful selection of genetically modified super rapeseed “Zhuyou No.1” and “Zhaoyou No.2” in Zhejiang Province has created extremely good conditions for the rapeseed industry to provide high oil content germplasm resources.
The agronomic traits of "Oil Oil No. 1" are characterized by high plant height, thick layer of cornices, dense grain, high number of grains per pod, high yield, and no separation in the field. The Ministry of Agriculture Oil Products Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center detected oil content as high as 47.8%. The cultivar has a double-low receptor parent, erucic acid content of 0.7%, oleic acid content of 63.0%, linoleic acid content of 20.8%, a high-yield, high-quality, high oil breakthrough strains of rapeseed.
The agronomic characteristics of “Super Oil No. 2” is that the plants are tall, with dark green leaves, many branches and many fruits, and the high yield performance is good. The oil content of seeds is as high as 52.7%, and the oil production per hm2 can be increased from 795kg to 1110kg. The search for this species is currently the highest in the oil content of Brassica napus in the world.
The new high-yielding vegetable variety was successfully selected by the international advanced biological technology in the Crop Quality Improvement Genetic Engineering Laboratory of the Institute of Atomic Energy, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. This achievement was achieved through 5 years of efforts by adopting a genetic engineering route from the point of view of photosynthate distribution to regulate the ratio of protein/oil content in grain.
At the on-site inspection and acceptance meeting held in Zhejiang Province, experts spoke highly of this achievement and believed that it is of great significance to improve the quality of rapeseed and the breeding level of oil crops. Due to the large number of domestic and foreign needs for this technology, the company has now invested in the country to apply for domestic and international multinational patents.
