Recently, the reporter learned from the Changchun City Economic and Technological Development Zone Customs that in the first 10 months of this year, the value of imported auto parts in Changchun City reached US$250 million, an increase of 75% year-on-year, a record high.

Since the beginning of this year, the sales in the domestic auto market have improved markedly, and the production volume of auto vehicles has increased substantially. In particular, in the second quarter of this year, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. temporarily adjusted its entire vehicle production plan from the original annual production of 300,000 vehicles to 350,000, thereby driving auto parts manufacturers to increase the import volume of auto parts. This is the main reason for the significant increase in auto parts imports this year.

Industry analysts said that with the adjustment of the national automobile industry policy, vehicle manufacturers have put forward a policy of “deep localization” to increase the variety and quantity of domestically-made accessory parts, prompting component manufacturers to expand the import of auto parts blanks. A number of auto parts manufacturers that invested in construction in 2005 began formal production this year, which also increased the import volume of auto parts.
