According to the Financial Times, parts supplier Johnson Controls has established a partnership with Harrison Spinks, a spring manufacturer in the UK, and the two sides are evaluating a small spiral spring invented by Simon Spinks.
Simon Spinks, the general manager of Simon Spinks, invented the new coil spring with a height of only 10 millimeters. A large number of such springs arranged horizontally can absorb the weight evenly and improve the comfort of the seat.
In addition, this new type of spring can also reduce the weight of the seat by more than 20%, effectively realize the lightweight of the seat, thereby reducing the average weight of the entire body and achieving energy saving and emission reduction.
Johnson Controls believes that this new type of spring or will achieve a major change in the automotive seating industry. Johnson Controls intends to apply the new spring to the production process of the seat in 2012.
