The second of two 2-11 alarm fires in Chicago on December 22, 2018, occurred at 6417 N Ravenswood Avenue. This incident was the second fire of the day, and it quickly escalated from a routine rubbish call to a full-blown structure fire.
According to Chi-Town Fire Photos, the initial response was for a rubbish fire at Engine 43, but the MFAO (Multi-Fire Alarm Operating) upgraded the call to a full structural alarm. The crew on scene initially responded to a small trash fire, but upon arrival, they found smoke coming from all over a one-story auto body shop. They forced entry through a side door, only to be met with heavy smoke and limited visibility.
Firefighters attempted to make a forward attack but were pulled back by the commanding officer, who immediately ordered a box alarm. Companies went defensive as the fire proved stubborn and difficult to control. Due to limited resources and staging challenges, a 2-11 alarm was eventually called. Despite the intense fire, crews managed to contain the blaze to the structure and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
At the height of the operation, eight hand lines and two aerial master streams were deployed. The fire ultimately burned through the roof, but thanks to the efforts of the firefighters, it did not spread to adjacent properties.

Socket-weld pipe flanges are typically used on smaller sizes of high pressure pipes. These pipe flanges are attached by inserting the pipe into the socket end and applying fillet weld around the top. This allows for a smooth bore and better flow of the fluid or gas inside of the pipe.
