Niles Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment building on Dee Road this morning around 9:00 AM. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from a fifth-floor balcony and heavy smoke pouring from a side window of a corner unit. The incident was initially classified as a working fire and quickly escalated to a Code 4, followed by a Box Alarm. As crews conducted searches, multiple residents were found inside the building, prompting an EMS Box Alarm to be called as a precautionary measure. The fire was quickly brought under control and remained confined to the unit of origin and the hallway. Several residents who could not evacuate on their own were safely secured within their apartments until they could be rescued.
Three aerial ladders were deployed around the building, and Niles Engine 2 was seen charging the standpipe system to assist with suppression efforts. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of all occupants. Multiple fire departments from surrounding areas, including Des Plaines, Glenview, Morton Grove, and Northfield, also arrived to provide additional support.
Several photos captured the scene, showing fire trucks stationed around the building, firefighters in action, and the aftermath of the fire. These images highlight the quick response and coordinated efforts of first responders. More photos can be viewed at shapirophotography.net.
