Cicero 4-Alarm fire with 2 specials – 1-21-14

This is the first in a series of updates covering the large-scale fire that broke out in Cicero on Tuesday night. The fire started at 1829 54th Avenue and quickly spread to 1843 54th Avenue. Within less than an hour, the incident was escalated to four alarms, prompting a special call for assistance from Chicago Fire Department and a task force from MABAS Division 20. Here are some photos from Eric Haak — more images will be coming from Tim Olk, Jeff Rudolph, and Larry Shapiro. We appreciate your patience as we continue to gather and share the full story. Eric shared this detailed account of his experience: > "For reference, the first photo I took shows the initial conditions. Shots 4 and 5 capture the heavy fire blowing out the sector 4 side of the building about 10 minutes after the first image. Pictures 6, 7, and 8 show Oak Park’s aerial ladder working the sector 2/3 corner. Picture 3 features the Cicero Engine 1 using its deck gun, which they only operated for a few minutes." Iron Base Brazed Heat Exchanger

Brazed Heat Exchangers, also known as Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers (BPHEs), are highly efficient devices used for transferring heat between two fluids. They are widely used in various applications such as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, refrigeration, industrial processes, and more. Below is a classification of brazed heat exchangers based on different criteria:
1. **By Application:**
- **HVAC Systems:** Used for heating and cooling in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- **Refrigeration:** Used in chillers, condensers, and evaporators for refrigeration systems.
- **Industrial Processes:** Used in chemical, food, and beverage industries for process heating and cooling.
- **Renewable Energy:** Used in solar thermal systems and geothermal heat pumps.
2. **By Fluid Type:**
- **Water-to-Water:** Both sides of the heat exchanger use water as the heat transfer medium.
- **Water-to-Refrigerant:** One side uses water, and the other side uses a refrigerant, commonly found in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- **Refrigerant-to-Refrigerant:** Both sides use different or the same refrigerants, often used in cascade refrigeration systems.
3. **By Construction:**
- **Single Circuit:** A single path for each fluid, suitable for simple heat transfer applications.
- **Dual Circuit:** Two independent paths for each fluid, allowing for more complex heat transfer configurations.
- **Multi-Circuit:** More than two independent paths, providing flexibility in design and application.
4. **By Material:**
- **Copper-Brazed:** The most common type, using copper as the brazing material. Copper provides excellent thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance.
- **Nickel-Brazed:** Uses nickel as the brazing material, offering higher resistance to corrosion and better compatibility with certain fluids, such as ammonia.
- **Stainless Steel-Brazed:** Uses stainless steel as the brazing material, providing high resistance to corrosion and suitable for aggressive fluids.
