Line butterfly valve in the high-performance anti-corrosion series of special role

The Goleta Water District, located south of Santa Barbara in California, serves approximately 75,000 residents across 29,000 acres using a network of 230 miles of pipelines. As part of its water management and purification responsibilities, the district recently installed 12 Pulsafeeder Pulsar Hypo pumps at its main Corona del Mar Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to accurately dose sodium hypochlorite into wastewater for disinfection. These pumps are specifically engineered to handle varying concentrations of sodium hypochlorite, addressing common issues like vapor buildup, heat exposure, and chemical degradation. With a maximum capacity of 36 million gallons per day, the Corona del Mar WTP relies on these precision dosing systems to maintain efficient and safe wastewater treatment. The Pulsar Hypo pumps operate under no more than 100 psi and have shown consistent performance without any downtime since their installation last year. Some pumps are used to disinfect influent water at 55 gallons per hour, while others feed 32 gph into clean wells and 9 gph at booster stations. The initial pump was an upgraded version of a standard Pulsafeeder model, retrofitted by site technician Mike Alvarado. He had existing components and worked with local dealer Charles P. Crowley to adapt the system. Six units were converted, and six new pumps were ordered. Previously, the district used peristaltic pumps, but frequent tube replacements led them to seek a more reliable solution. Diaphragm pumps were considered, but gas accumulation issues made them impractical. The Pulsar Hypo pump avoids this problem through its design, which allows periodic flushing of air and vapor from the discharge system, ensuring continuous operation and eliminating the need for bypass systems. In addition to the sodium hypochlorite application, Watson-Marlow Bredel’s 520 Series peristaltic pumps have been successfully deployed at the South East Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cranleigh, England. These pumps dose ferric chloride, a key flocculant used to meet strict BOD regulations. The 520 series features a brushless DC motor, IP66 rating, and precise flow control, making it ideal for handling aggressive chemicals. Meanwhile, in Spain and the Netherlands, ABS Pumps has supplied critical equipment for new wastewater treatment facilities. In Gijón, Spain, the La Reguerona WWTP uses vertical submersible pumps and AFP systems to manage large volumes of wastewater. In the Netherlands, a new plant near Lichtenvoorde supports a growing tannery, relying on similar ABS equipment for reliable and efficient operations. These installations highlight the importance of advanced pumping solutions in modern water treatment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with environmental standards.
