As autumn paints the land in golden hues, songs of joy echo across the nation, and blossoms bloom like an endless sea. In this season of harvest, we celebrate the 56th anniversary of the founding of New China. Across the Great Wall and beyond, people from all ethnic groups gather in celebration, raising cheers and laughter, honoring the prosperity of their homeland with flowers and wine.
Amidst this festive atmosphere, the five million children of the oil and chemical industry—those who have made remarkable progress in the development of the "Tenth Five-Year Plan"—stand proud. Their recent achievements have offered a meaningful gift to the motherland on this momentous occasion.
Over the past 56 years, especially during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, the Chinese petroleum and chemical industry has moved forward with determination, seizing historical opportunities and pursuing sustainable growth. This journey has led to rapid development and impressive accomplishments, making the sector one of the most vital pillars of the national economy.
This year marks not only the 56th anniversary of the Republic but also the final year of the Tenth Five-Year Plan. After five years of hard work, the industry has reached new heights. Currently, the petroleum and chemical sector contributes more than 18% to China’s GDP, becoming a major economic pillar. By the end of last year, total industrial output had increased by 78% compared to 2001, sales revenue rose by 80.5%, total profits jumped by 131%, taxes increased by 68%, and trade volume surged by 246%. In the first half of this year, the industry maintained its momentum, with a 35.8% rise in output value and a 30% increase in profits and taxes.
The industry has undergone significant optimization in product, technology, investment, and organizational structures, enhancing efficiency and competitiveness. With growing demand from the national economy, production capacity for many key products has expanded. China now leads the world in the production of chemical fertilizers, synthetic ammonia, soda ash, sulfuric acid, dyes, phosphate rock, synthetic fibers, and rubber shoes. It ranks second in pesticides, caustic soda, and tires, and third in crude oil refining, ethylene, and coatings.
Numerous products, including soda ash, lubricants, fertilizers, tires, and coatings, have earned the title of "China Famous Brand," placing the industry at the forefront of national manufacturing.
On the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Republic, we reflect on our glorious journey and the milestones we've achieved. We feel deep pride and admiration for our progress.
This year also marks the end of the Tenth Five-Year Plan and the beginning of the Eleventh. It is a crucial time for the development of the oil and chemical industry. Having navigated the three-year WTO transition period, we are now entering the post-WTO era. Protection measures will gradually be lifted, and domestic markets will expand further. Companies will face fierce international competition, bringing new challenges and tests.
However, we are supported by a stronger nation and a solid industry foundation. As long as we adhere to the scientific concept of development, prioritize people-centered growth, and promote a harmonious society, we can continue to advance. Through structural adjustments, we will move away from outdated, energy-intensive, and polluting models, building a fair and efficient market system. With these efforts, we are confident in achieving even greater success in the next development cycle, improving people's lives, strengthening national power, and contributing more to the country's future.
The motherland will grow stronger tomorrow, and the oil and chemical industry will shine brighter than ever.
