Scientists find fish spiders

Spiders are certainly happy to eat flies, but sometimes their menu is not just insects. In a study published on Wednesday, the researchers detailed that at least 24 species of spiders on all continents often eat freshwater fish that exceed their size. Scientists have long known that spiders eat fish, but studies have shown that practice is more common than expected.

Spiders use powerful neurotoxins and enzymes to kill fish and digest it. Amphibian spiders can swim, dive, and even walk on the water. They lurk on the edge of shallow streams, lakes, ponds and swamps. They often fix their hind legs on a stone or plant and use their front legs to prepare for ambush on the water. Researchers say at least 18 spiders have been observed to catch fish in the wild. Including some spiders from other families, doing this in the laboratory was recorded. Fish is not the only vertebrate menu for spiders. It also includes frogs, crickets, crickets, lizards, snakes, mice, bats and birds.
