The Lake Zurich Fire Department was called to a structure fire around 1:00 AM this morning at 1025 Old McHenry Road. This location is just about 100 yards away from their #3 fire station, located at 1075 Old McHenry Road. Upon arrival, the first responding unit discovered heavy flames on the east side of the two-story home. Due to the intensity of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm to bring in more personnel. Later, the situation escalated further to a second alarm as additional resources were needed for the extensive overhaul required at the older home, which had undergone several renovations over the years.
One challenge faced by firefighters was securing a reliable water supply. The first hydrant attempted by the engine crew malfunctioned, causing a slight delay in getting water to the scene. Despite this setback, crews worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
Two images from the scene show the severity of the fire. The first image captures thick smoke billowing from the second floor of the house, while the second shows firefighters from Palatine Quint 81 working on the roof to tackle the fire that could not be reached from inside the building. A third image provides a general view of the property during the incident.
