Vintage 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 12-6-01

Here's a throwback post from Larry Shapiro for #TBT:

Below are some images from a 3-11 alarm fire and EMS Plan 1 that took place at 4344 N. Winchester on December 6, 2001. These photos capture an era when many of the apparatus seen here were brand new. Today, most of them have either been retired or placed in reserve. One of the shots shows all three LTI tower ladders in excellent condition—something you don’t see very often anymore. Squad 2 and Tower 5 were just under a year old at the time, making them relatively new additions to the fleet.

These photos give a nice glimpse into the past and remind us how much the department has evolved over the years. It’s always interesting to see what equipment was in use back then and how it compares to today’s modern rigs.
