On June 1, a reporter learned from Praxair, a globally renowned industrial gas supplier, that the company has recently entered into a 15-year gas supply agreement with Jinlong Copper Co., Ltd., China's largest joint venture copper smelting company. Under the terms of the contract, Praxair will provide pipeline oxygen to Jinlong Copper’s production facility in Tongling, Anhui Province, supporting its advanced flash copper smelting operations.
To fulfill this commitment, Praxair is constructing and managing three vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) oxygen generation units with a combined capacity of 14,100 cubic meters per hour—approximately 500 tons of oxygen per day. These systems are designed to meet the high-demand requirements of Jinlong Copper’s fast-paced smelting process. Construction of the oxygen plant has already begun, with the first unit expected to start supplying oxygen to Jinlong Copper in January 2007. The second unit will go online in July of the same year, followed by the third system, which will be fully operational by August 2008.
