On September 25, Du Shengli, a worker technician and director of the binary composite flooding station, developed a new piston pump Versa seat extractor. The device was evaluated by the Quality Control (QC) team at Shandong Shengli Gudao Oil Production Plant and received the top score for "QC Results," winning the first prize. It will now be submitted to the Shengli Petroleum Administration for further recognition. This marks the first time a frontline worker from Gudong Oil Production Plant has won the first prize in QC results.
The Versa piston pump is prone to damage due to high-pressure hydraulic scouring, leading to irregular grooves, pitting, and wear on the seat. Traditionally, replacing the damaged seat required using other tools, which often caused damage to the inlet valve chamber and reduced pump efficiency. The seat could only be used 3–5 times before needing replacement, making the process inefficient and costly.
Du Shengli, during his daily maintenance tasks, faced frequent challenges with extracting the damaged seat, which also led to damage in the liquid valve cavity. Inspired by the principle of torque, he designed a new Versa seat extractor that uses the force generated by nuts and screws. By connecting two fixed round bases, the tool effectively extracts the damaged seat without causing additional harm to the pump components.
Since April 2007, after extensive field testing, the new Versa seat extractor was successfully tested on a 3ZP piston pump and widely adopted across the Sansei Center. It significantly improved efficiency, reducing extraction time from over 30 minutes to under 10 minutes. The tool can now be reused up to 15 times, compared to the previous 3–5 uses. This innovation saved approximately 50,000 yuan annually in material costs and increased pump efficiency by 4 percentage points. It also reduced the physical workload for workers and cut down on maintenance time, making the entire process more efficient and cost-effective.
