Great Wall Motor has made a significant breakthrough in the automotive industry by introducing its first domestically developed diesel engine featuring independent intellectual property rights and advanced electronically controlled high-pressure common rail technology. This cutting-edge engine, named "Intelligent Fuel Saver" INTEC, will be integrated into the Haval diesel models and the high-end Great Wall K2 pickup truck, both set to launch in the second half of the year.
INTEC is more than just a name—it reflects the engine's innovative design and technological superiority. The "IN" stands for intelligence, "TEC" represents technology, and "E" symbolizes economy. The final "C" stands for Great Wall Power, highlighting the brand’s commitment to self-reliance and innovation. It incorporates turbo common rail (TC) technology, ensuring superior performance and efficiency.
Developed in collaboration with Bosch, a global leader in diesel engine technology, this engine brings together the best of international expertise and domestic engineering. Its key features include powerful and stable performance, low noise levels, energy efficiency, and the ability to start reliably at temperatures as low as -35°C. It also includes a cooled EGR system and emission control devices that meet Euro III standards, making it environmentally friendly and compliant with strict regulations.
Currently, only a few countries have access to this technology, making Great Wall Motor's achievement a major milestone for China's independent automotive industry.
The INTEC engine delivers exceptional torque, with a maximum of 225Nm available between 1600-2600 rpm—far exceeding traditional turbocharged diesel engines. This ensures smooth power delivery and eliminates the common issue of short-lived peak torque. Additionally, it uses high-pressure direct injection technology, reducing noise by over 16% compared to conventional models, offering a quiet and comfortable driving experience similar to gasoline engines.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the INTEC engine improves combustion efficiency by 8% thanks to precise ECU control and high fuel injection pressure. This results in a fuel consumption reduction of over 20% per 100 km, while carbon dioxide emissions are 15% lower than those of standard diesel engines. It combines the responsiveness of a gasoline engine with the fuel economy and low emissions of a diesel one.
This engine marks a turning point for Great Wall Motor, which has long focused on building core competencies in engine technology. Since establishing its internal combustion engine manufacturing company in 2000, the company has invested heavily in modern production facilities and R&D. By 2003, it had expanded its production lines and introduced several advanced engines, including the GW4D28 diesel and the 2.8TDI turbocharged model. The launch of the INTEC engine now represents a new chapter in China's domestic automotive manufacturing history.
