According to technicians, this innovative device can identify whether broilers are infected with the virus in just 1 hour and 54 minutes, significantly speeding up the diagnostic process.
The compact machine was recently observed in the laboratory of Kangdi Wanda (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., located in Xiqing District. Despite its small size, the device is a high-tech imported instrument that cost over 400,000 yuan. Its full name is "Fluorescence Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction Detector," commonly known as a fluorescence PCR detector. It is specifically designed for the rapid and accurate detection of avian influenza viruses.
The dark blue device is about the size of a printer, with a small drawer beneath it serving as the reagent storage compartment. Laboratory staff emphasized that although the machine looks unassuming, its performance is critical in determining whether broilers are infected. The device plays a key role in ensuring the safety of poultry products before they reach the market.
The detection process involves several steps. First, a cotton swab is used to collect body fluids from the broiler, such as nasal mucus. Then, a series of reagents—including lysis solution and other necessary chemicals—are added. The sample undergoes seven steps of protein breakdown and purification before being loaded into the detector. After approximately 1 hour and 54 minutes, if a flashing signal appears on the screen, it indicates a positive result, suggesting the presence of the avian influenza virus.
In such cases, the company immediately reports the findings to the relevant authorities and takes immediate action by sealing off all affected birds.
