I came across an intriguing piece of history regarding the 3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago on June 1, 1917. Interestingly enough, there was a 2-11 Alarm fire that happened in the exact same building back on April 24, 1983. So far, none of our contributors have been able to provide any photographs from that earlier fire. It’s fascinating how these events unfolded over time.
Attached below is a scan of the Chicago Fire Department's extra alarm listings for April 1983. It gives a glimpse into the kind of emergencies they were dealing with during that period.

This next part comes directly from Steve Redick:

"Thursday morning, during the peak of the rush hour, there was a fire at 2945 Milwaukee Avenue. The structure involved was a two-story furniture store, where the upper floor was entirely enclosed by brick veneer, cutting off access to the exterior. The fire was intense, spreading throughout the building and eventually causing what I believe to be a bowstring truss roof to collapse. The lighting conditions were challenging due to alternating patches of bright sunlight and deep shadows. However, it was a great opportunity to observe Squad 2's new 'snorkel' platform truck fully extended and in action, along with some impressive tower ladder operations and the backup snorkel. It was also noteworthy to see Engine 69 connected to a hydrant in front of Engine 91’s old station at 3000 North Elbridge, which was surprisingly close to the back of the fire building. Here’s just one example out of the hundreds of images I captured—every single photo and accompanying video can be viewed [here](#)."
