Chicago Still & Box 5-17-11

Last night, Steve Redick captured a Still & Box alarm at 3636 Grenshaw. The fire started on the back porches of a three-story 6-flat unit that appeared to be unoccupied. Engine 107 was the second engine to arrive and was directed to the rear of the building. There, they used their deck gun to suppress the main portion of the fire before securing a hydrant at the end of the alley. The incident involved multiple units working together to contain the flames. Truck 48 was seen laddering the roof from the front of the structure, while Engine 38 was the first due and took the front position. Engine 107 played a key role in attacking the fire with its deck gun before setting up a water supply. Photos from the scene show the extent of the damage. One image highlights the charred deck area on one side of the back porches, where the fire had spread along the roof. Another shows heavy charring visible from the upper levels, indicating the intensity of the blaze. Steve Redick’s photos provide a clear visual record of the operation and the aftermath.
