Firefighters from Palatine were dispatched to a detached garage fire at 629 Hill Road in an unincorporated area of Cook County, which is surrounded by Palatine. Several neighbors reported intense flames, and the homeowner was frantic, unable to locate her daughter or husband. Upon arrival, responding units identified a large fire, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a Code 4 working fire. Engine 81 arrived to find a two-story house with an attached garage that was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly deployed a 2-1/2 inch hose line to tackle the blaze. A second line was stretched to the C-D corner of the structure, where fire was also spreading rapidly. Additional lines were used to protect the interior of the house as the fire had already spread inside. The daughter was trapped on the second floor due to thick smoke, but firefighters successfully rescued her and confirmed that no other occupants were inside.
The fire was brought under control within about 20 minutes, though the house sustained significant damage. Thanks to the quick response and efforts of the firefighters, the situation was managed efficiently, minimizing further potential risks.
