In Illinois, the College of Lake County stands out as the sole community college offering an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Firefighter Basic Operations, a unique program that includes a hands-on internship with a local fire department. Since its inception in August 2016, this internship has proven to be a game-changer for CLC's fire science technology students. Out of the ten students who have successfully completed a demanding two-semester unpaid internship with the Grayslake Fire Protection District, three have secured part-time firefighting positions within the same department. Another four have found similar opportunities with neighboring fire districts, while one has ventured into wildland firefighting in Oregon.
One of the standout features of CLC's program is its comprehensive approach. Not only do graduates earn their A.A.S. degree, but they're also qualified for Fire Basic Operations certification through the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal. Additionally, they gain essential licensure as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) from the Illinois Department of Public Health. This internship program was established via an intergovernmental agreement between CLC and Grayslake fire authorities. Both CLC faculty and Grayslake fire administrators work hand-in-hand, from candidate selection to performance evaluations.
Grayslake Fire Protection District Chief John Christian expressed his enthusiasm: "CLC students are thoroughly prepared for their internships. They’re familiar with our equipment, procedures, and policies. It’s fantastic to see such a strong partnership taking shape." Serving a population of 37,000 and fielding around 4,000 calls annually, the Grayslake district plays a critical role in this collaboration.

Q: How do I know the O2 sensor is good or
not?
A: The only way to know if the O2 sensor is
functioning normally is to check its responsiveness to changes in the air/fuel
mixture, by Voltage Measurement or Waveform Simulation.
Use a 10-megaohm digital voltmeter. Hook up
the voltmeter's red probe to the sensor's signal wire and the black probe to engine
ground. (Use back probe method, DO NOT pierce the wire.) For a good sensor,
voltage should fluctuate constantly between 0.1 and 0.9 volts after starting
the engine for 2 or 3 minutes.

Stays fixed at a particular voltage
